Experimental details:
The IR and VCD spectra were recorded using a Biotools Chiral-2X spectrometer and a 75 mm BaF2 sample cell. (R)-, (S)- and (+/-)-citronellal with purities of 90%, 96% and 95%, respectively, were purchased from Sigma-Aldrich. Both enantiomers have been measured in deuterated chloroform at a concentration of 0.3 M
